The construction site is situated in the central part of the capital on a slope known for slope stability issues
January 2012 saw the start of the construction of a 15 storey Sofitel hotel complex in Kiev with 3 underground parking levels. This 5 star hotel project, under the management of the international hotel operator ACCOR, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.
The construction site is situated in the central part of the capital on a slope known for slope stability issues and a height variation of 15 metres. All the works are conducted in close vicinity to existing residential buildings and social facilities.
Taking into account the complicated hydro and geological conditions of the construction site and the close proximity of residential buildings, the excavation is performed under the protection of diaphragm and sheet pile walling with further ground excavation assisted using large diameter struts.
Sixense installed an automated monitoring system Cyclops enabling real-time acquisition
To ensure operational control of settlement, tilt and deformation of the existing buildings, Sixense installed an automated monitoring system Cyclops enabling real-time acquisition, storage and access to the data. All the monitoring results are then visualised through the monitoring database installed on a server in Sixense’s office. Therefore the client and scientific consultant have permanent online access to the measurement results thanks to the data visualisation and analysis software Geoscope installed on their computers.
In addition to monitoring the structure using Cyclops, the monitoring of horizontal slope displacements at the hotel location and neighbouring buildings is provided with periodic inclinometer measurements in 39 m deep vertical boreholes.
